Giclee fine art printing and photography of artwork

These are the following definitions and standards of giclée (zhee-clay) prints - as set by The Fine Art Trade Guild.

A giclée print is a piece of printed artwork or photograph produced by using a high quality digital inkjet printer.

The inks used are specially formulated and compatible with the extreme fineness of the printer head that directs minute droplets of ink at a resolution of 1440 dots per (linear) inch or more.

The paper or canvas is specially prepared to accept this type of printing mechanism and ink set. The printing media must be manufactured to fine art standards and acid free to ensure longevity.

The visual quality of giclée prints is extremely high. Continuous tones are printed without apparent dots, lines or barring. Colour saturation and definition can be stunning.

Giclée printing has many advantages over other printmaking methods by streamlining the production process, reducing up-front costs, and virtually eliminating the need for storage.

The Artist need only to approve the first giclée print. Once approved, the digital master file is archived (unless instructed otherwise). We then can be print and deliver each order, as and when requested.

Print On Demand: Since each piece is individually printed, the artist is not obligated to complete a full edition and may span an edition over many orders.

Order Prints as needed without large up front costs and storage problems.

Print 1 or 100 in a single order.

Artists can test-market a new idea without investing time and money on an image that may not sell in large quantities and can self-publish - giving them more control.

Prints are produced on archival quality, natural, papers and canvas, much like an original painting. This gives each piece a similar look and feel to an original work of art. Since the quality is superior to all other printmaking methods you can command a higher per unit selling price for the prints. The surfaces used are acid free and are treated for use with the inkjet process. Life-span estimates of wide-gamut pigment ink Giclée’s by third-party testing indicate over 100 years, for certain surfaces, with no noticeable fade.
